CURRENT AVAILABLE PROGRAMS:

VIRTUAL Life / Social Skills Program - Continuous Intake Year Round
​Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9:30-12:00 - Registration Open
(Classes will resume in centre once it is safe to do so....stay tuned), in the meantime join us virtually!

Our programs are designed for youth 18+ and adults who:
  • Have a diagnosis of Autism, Asperger's Syndrome or other Developmental Disabilities
  • Are in the process of (or have) transitioning out of  high school 
  • Require social, communication, post-secondary school or workplace skills
  • Require life skills training to gain independence at any stage of their lives
Curriculum Detail:
  • Focus on social skills, communication, stress and anxiety management, emotional regulation,  activities of daily living, nutrition, transportation, personal safety, money skills, relationships and sexuality​ 

THE "Building Lives" Pre-Employment Program - Currently on hold until Jan. 2021 due to COVID 

Admissions Criteria:  Should have a diagnosis of Autism/Intellectual or Developmental Disability 
Duration:  40 Hrs followed by a 40 hour in-store training
Fee:  $ 190.00/week for 8 week program 
Instruction Days:  Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 10-2:30

In partnership with Reach Toronto Autism Services and Sandwich N Such, we are proud to offer our "Building Lives" Pre-employment program.  This will consist of  a 40  hour in  class  training component followed by a 40 hour hands on   training module in our  sandwich shop.  Students will learn customer service skills, culinary and food prep, inventory, cash register, money skills  just to name a few.  Social skills will be integrated into the module.  To enroll or enquire, please call  416-929-1670.

 Financial Literacy Program - Currently on hold until Jan. 2021 due to COVID

Our financial literacy program prepares students for financial independence by introducing them to the world of money in a fun and creative environment.   It covers fundamental financial literacy topics, beginning with key concepts such as value of money and budgeting, progressing to banking for personal use and short and long term savings.

Independent Living Skills Program at the Greenwin Independent Living Centre

 SUMMER 2020 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN  (DUE TO COVID, THIS YEAR'S CAMPS ARE CANCELED.  OUR VIRTUAL SOCIAL/LIFE SKILLS PROGRAMS WILL RUN ALL SUMMER)
​July 6 - July 31, 2020 
The program is designed for students 14+ with autism, asperger's and/or a mild intellectual disability who are contemplating independent living (or assisted independent living).  Focus will be on teaching students the skills to carry out activities of daily life required for independent living in a residential environment.  Students will also acquire the social skills to help them navigate a residential building environment and acquire a taste of what living independently requires.   The program will take place in the apartment one day per week from 9:30 to 3:00.  Each week students will  learn and practice an independent living skill.

  • Housekeeping (cleaning, bed making, bathrooms, dusting)
  • Chore Schedules and Priorities
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Apartment and Social etiquette
  • Fire Safety
  • Sharing a living space 
Program will also include recreational activities, swimming, and community exploration of amenities.  

Academic Upgrading 

High school Transition Program 

This program is offered to students with Autism, Asperger's, Mild Intellectual and Learning Disabilities who are entering high school. This program will address transition topics that will help students be better prepared for their new environment.  Topics will include fitting in, making friends, academic workload, bullying, peer pressure, self-advocacy, asking for help and organizational skills.  Program takes place both in centre and out in the community.  As part of transitional skills, social and communication skills will also be taught and practiced.

Curriculum Details:
  • Designed for adults with high functioning Autism or Asperger Syndrome who will be attending college/university in the fall of 2020.
  • Topics covered: study skills, note taking, self-advocacy, applying for and managing student supports,  navigating the college culture, time management, organizational skills,  group work, building relationships, social skills and anxiety management
